The Safest Way To Ship Live Fish!
The Demasoni Cichlid is a relatively new Cichlid from the Pombo Rocks area of Lake Malawi in Africa. It is unique fish and a great choice for a home aquarium as long as a few guidelines are followed. Hobbyists will enjoy the vibrant colors and distinct markings of our healthy stock of Pseudotropheus Demasoni.
In the wild, they live in large schools and travel together, so a similar set up in a home aquarium is recommended. The Demasoni is a small fish only growing to 2 3/4 inches, which means it can be raised in a smaller tank. However, as a dwarf Mbuna, a larger tank, is always a better choice. They are an aggressive fish and should be kept in groups of 6 or more to reduce the aggression. If other species of fish are to be kept in the same tank they should have different colors to minimize the risk of aggressive behavior.
Like other lake Malawi Mbuna, these cichlids prefer a tank with lots of caves and tunnels for swimming and exploring. They will spend a lot of time in spot simply nibbling algae as they are herbivores. A good Cichlid formula with a high vegetable content and spirulina will take care of their nutritional needs. Like the lake they come from, they prefer warm water of 75 to 82 degrees Fahrenheit and a pH of about 7.5 to 8.5.
The Pseudotropheus Demasoni Cichlid has bright black or dark blue stripes in a very crisp pattern. This is one of the features that make them so popular with tropical fish enthusiasts. However, it can be difficult to tell males from females. Care should be taken when breeding as the Demasoni Cichlid is a mouth brooding fish, which means a spawning female will protect the fry in her mouth until they can be safe on their own.
