Description

The Green Tiger Loach (Syncrossus hymenophysa), is a vibrant and lively freshwater fish species that belongs to the Botiidae family. Its body is adorned with striking greenish-yellow tones with dark vertical stripes, reminiscent of a tiger, giving it a bold and eye-catching appearance. This loach is native to Southeast Asia, inhabiting streams and rivers with soft substrates and plenty of hiding spots. Green Tiger Loaches are highly active and social, often forming small groups in the wild, which makes them ideal candidates for community aquariums with similarly sized and peaceful fish.

Growing up to 4-6 inches in length, the Green Tiger Loach thrives in well-maintained tanks with plenty of space for swimming and exploration. They enjoy tanks with a mix of rocky hiding places, driftwood, and plants, which provide them with shelter and places to explore. They prefer slightly acidic to neutral water (pH 6.5-7.5) and a temperature range of 75-82°F.

While these loaches are generally peaceful, they can be slightly boisterous, especially when kept in groups. It’s important to house them with other robust tankmates to avoid stress or competition. They are omnivorous, with a preference for sinking pellets, frozen or live foods like bloodworms and brine shrimp, and occasional plant matter.

The Green Tiger Loach’s active nature, unique appearance, and social behavior make it a favorite for aquarists looking to add a dynamic and visually appealing species to their tank.
