Description

The Lawsi Cichlid (Chindongo lawsi) is a small but stunning African cichlid native to the rocky shorelines of Lake Malawi. Its vibrant yellow body, complemented by black vertical stripes, makes it a standout species for aquarists seeking to add energy and color to their aquarium. Known for its active swimming and bold personality, this mbuna cichlid is a lively addition to any tank.

This species thrives in aquariums with plenty of rocky structures and caves, which replicate its natural habitat and provide shelter and territory. As a semi-aggressive mbuna, the Lawsi Cichlid should be housed with other similarly tempered tank mates. A tank size of at least 40 gallons is recommended, with larger tanks preferred for community setups.

The Lawsi Cichlid is primarily herbivorous, thriving on a diet of spirulina-based flakes, algae wafers, and blanched vegetables like zucchini or spinach. Avoid feeding high-protein or meaty foods, as these can lead to health issues.

With stable water parameters (pH 7.8–8.6, temperature 76°F–82°F) and a thoughtfully designed aquarium, the Lawsi Cichlid will display vibrant colors and dynamic behavior, becoming a delightful centerpiece in any mbuna-themed tank.
