OB Red Top Trewavasae

$25$30

The OB Red Top Trewavasae (Tropheops trewavasae) is a dazzling African cichlid from Lake Malawi, celebrated for its vivid orange and blue blotched pattern and striking red hue along the top of its dorsal fin. Its vibrant colors, bold personality, and active nature make it a favorite among mbuna enthusiasts.

Native to the rocky shores of Lake Malawi, this species thrives in aquariums with plenty of rock structures and caves for hiding and territorial boundaries. The OB Red Top Trewavasae is semi-aggressive, typical of mbuna cichlids, and does best in community setups with similarly tempered tank mates. A tank size of at least 55 gallons is recommended to provide ample space and minimize aggression.

This cichlid is primarily herbivorous, feeding on algae in its natural habitat. In the aquarium, it thrives on a diet rich in spirulina-based flakes, algae wafers, and blanched vegetables like zucchini or spinach. Limiting protein-rich foods is crucial to maintaining their health and enhancing their vibrant coloration.

Stable water conditions (pH 7.8–8.6, temperature 76°F–82°F) and regular maintenance are essential for the OB Red Top Trewavasae to thrive. With proper care and a thoughtfully designed tank, this fish will bring vivid color and dynamic energy to your aquarium.
