Description

Native to the unique biotope of Lake Tanganyika, the Lamprologus helianthus, or Sunflower Cichlid, stands out with its radiant yellow and gold tones, accented with subtle hints of blue along its body. This small yet vibrant cichlid typically reaches about 3 to 4 inches in length. It thrives in environments that replicate the sandy and rocky substrates of its natural habitat, where it often seeks refuge in shells and crevices.

The Sunflower Cichlid is moderately territorial and does best in a species-specific setup or with other small, similarly tempered Tanganyikan cichlids. The ideal aquarium setup includes fine sand substrates, plenty of shells for hiding, and stable water conditions with temperatures between 76 to 80°F, and a pH level of 8.5 to 9.0.

Diet-wise, Lamprologus helianthus is omnivorous but leans towards carnivorous preferences, enjoying a varied diet of small invertebrates, quality pellets, and frozen foods like brine shrimp and daphnia. This diet helps maintain their vivid coloration and overall health.
