The Neolamprologus cylindricus, commonly known as the Cylindricus Cichlid, is a captivating species native to the rocky shorelines of Lake Tanganyika in Africa. This cichlid is celebrated for its unique cylindrical body shape and striking coloration, making it a favorite among cichlid enthusiasts.

Striking Appearance: The Cylindricus Cichlid features a distinctive elongated, cylindrical body adorned with bold horizontal stripes of black and white. This unique pattern provides excellent camouflage among the rocky crevices of its natural habitat.

Territorial Behavior: Known for its territorial nature, the Cylindricus Cichlid establishes and defends territories within the aquarium. They prefer rocky setups with plenty of caves and hiding spots to mimic their natural environment.

Ideal Tank Environment: A tank of at least 30 gallons is recommended, with rocky structures and crevices for hiding. Optimal water conditions include a pH of 7.8-9.0 and temperatures between 75-82°F (24-28°C). Strong filtration and regular water changes are essential to maintain water quality.

Diet and Feeding: In the wild, Neolamprologus cylindricus are omnivores, feeding on small invertebrates and algae. In captivity, they thrive on a diet of high-quality flakes, pellets, and occasional live or frozen foods like brine shrimp and bloodworms.

Breeding: This species is a substrate spawner, with females laying eggs in caves or crevices. Both parents guard the eggs and fry, demonstrating strong parental care. Providing a stable environment with adequate hiding spots can encourage breeding behavior.

Care Level: Intermediate – Requires specific water conditions and a well-structured tank environment to thrive.

Compatibility: Best kept with other Tanganyikan cichlids or similarly tempered species. Avoid housing them with aggressive or significantly larger fish.
