Acei Cichlids are lake Malawi Mbuna that prefer to live on shorelines that are filled with rocks and submerged logs. Our stock are very vibrant and beautifully colored fish. They feature electric blue and deep purple colors. Their fins tend to be a cream or yellow color. The appearance and unique coloring of this fish is one of the reasons why so many people want one in their aquarium.
While they are omnivorous by nature, they prefer to have an aquarium that is filled with plants and algae. Just about any vegetable matter is enough to feed these African Cichlids. It is a good idea to provide a few pieces of driftwood, some smooth rocks and a fine gravel or sand substrate. Yellow Tail Acei do best when kept in groups of 6 to 10 and in an aquarium of 55 gallons or larger.
Breeding Pseudotropheus Acei
Pseudotropheus Acei are fairly interesting when it comes to how they breed. They are known as ovophile mouth brooder. This just means that the mother incubates and hatches the eggs in her mouth. Typically, she will have to incubate the eggs for three weeks. Once they have hatched, she will spit them out. Then babies have to fend for themselves at that point.
